We collect information that you provide directly to us, including your name, email address, and any other information you choose to provide.

How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Provide, maintain, and improve our services
• Process your transactions
• Send you technical notices and support messages
• Respond to your comments and questions
• Communicate with you about products, services, and events

Service Providers and Sharing

We share information with third-party service providers that help us operate Koine Guide. These providers are permitted to process your information only to provide services to us.

• Payments (Stripe): used to process subscriptions and payments. We do not store full credit card numbers; we may store billing metadata like subscription status and Stripe customer identifiers. Stripe Privacy Policy.
• Email delivery (Resend): used to send transactional emails such as login, receipts, and service notifications.
• AI translation feedback (OpenAI): when you submit a translation for assessment or request a hint, your translation text and contextual Greek verse data are sent to OpenAI to generate feedback and scoring. OpenAI processes this data as a sub-processor on our behalf. See the OpenAI Privacy Policy and OpenAI Usage Policies for details on how OpenAI handles API data.
• Analytics (Google Analytics): used to understand site/app usage and improve performance.
• Session replay analytics (Microsoft Clarity): used to understand how users interact with pages through heatmaps and session recordings. Clarity may capture keystroke-level interactions, including text typed into input fields. We take reasonable steps to mask sensitive fields, but you should be aware that session replay is active on this site. • Hosting (Replit): used to host and operate the application infrastructure.

We may also share information if required by law, to protect our users, or in connection with a business transfer (like a merger or acquisition).

AI and Machine Learning

Koine Guide uses OpenAI's API to provide translation feedback and Socratic coaching hints. When you submit a translation or request a hint, relevant text is sent to OpenAI for processing.

• Training opt-out: OpenAI's API terms state that data submitted through the API is not used to train OpenAI models by default. We additionally configure all API calls with store: false to prevent retention in OpenAI's storage systems.
• What is sent: your translation text, the Greek verse you are translating, and contextual parsing data you have entered during the exercise. We do not send your name, email, or account identifiers to OpenAI.
• Opt-out: you can choose not to use the translation feedback and hint features, in which case no data is sent to OpenAI. To request deletion of any prior submissions, contact us at support@koineguide.com with the subject line "AI Data Request".

Cookies and Similar Technologies

We use cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember preferences, and understand how our site and app are used.

• Strictly necessary: required for authentication and core functionality.
• Analytics: helps us understand usage (for example, Google Analytics).
• UX/session replay analytics: helps us improve usability (for example, Microsoft Clarity heatmaps and session recordings, which may capture text input).

You can control cookies through your browser settings. In some regions, your consent may be required before we use non-essential cookies.

Data Retention

We retain personal information for as long as necessary to provide Koine Guide, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. For example:

• Account data: kept while your account is active and for a reasonable period after deletion to comply with legal and operational requirements.
• Billing records: retained as needed for tax, accounting, and compliance.
• Analytics data: retained according to our vendor settings (for example, Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity retention controls).
• AI feedback data: translation submissions and AI-generated feedback scores are stored in our database to support your progress tracking. They are not transmitted to OpenAI beyond the original assessment request.

Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access your personal information
• Correct inaccurate information
• Request deletion of your information
• Object to our use of your information

To request access, correction, or deletion, email support@koineguide.com from the address associated with your account and include the subject line "Privacy Request". We may ask you to verify your identity before completing your request.

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new privacy policy on this page.
